Adefunke Adeyemi has served as the Secretary-General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) since
1 September 2022. As head of the African Union’s specialized agency for civil aviation and the Executing Agency
of the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), she leads efforts to promote
aviation safety, security, liberalization, environmental protection, and the sustainable growth of air transport across
the continent. Her outstanding leadership was reaffirmed in November 2024 when she was re-elected for a second
three-year term during AFCAC’s 35th Plenary Ordinary Session.
With over 25 years of international experience, Adefunke has earned global recognition as one of the 100 Most
Inspirational African Women and among the 200 Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD). She is also
the 2021 recipient of the Ato Girma Wake Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to African air
transport and trade development. Adefunke holds a Law degree from the University of Lagos, an LL.M. from the
University of Cambridge, and an MBA from Nanyang Business School, Singapore, in collaboration with Wharton
and Berkeley Haas Business Schools.
